THIS SERIES HAS A GOOD CAST (though the best performances might not come from the ones you expect) and offers new and sometimes sordidly funny insights into the events leading up to the Nixon re-election campaign, the Watergate break-in(s), and the onset of scandal.

The two best performances came from Justin Theroux as Gordon Liddy, and Lena Headey as Dorothy Hunt. I have enjoyed Woody Harrelson in many past efforts, but in this role as Howard Hunt,  I quickly tired of his habit of thrusting his jaw forward to indicate some inner conflict. Theroux as Liddy was superb and may get nominated for it.

Lena Headey was fantastic as the spouse of Howard Hunt. The cast contained other familiar faces amid solid performances.

I  highly recommend that, if you watch this, you (re)watch All the President’s Men with Redford, Hoffman, Robards, et al. Also, any viewer of this series will notice parallels to very recent  political players and politics.

[When I was much, much younger, I read a Playboy interview with Gordon Liddy done not too long after Nixon resigned. I learned from the interview that Liddy would hold his hand over a flame to demonstrate his ability to ignore pain. Impressed with the concept,  I soon tried it (while boozy) and managed a nice scar in the middle of my right hand (that I feared at the time may have obscured my lifeline). Note to boozy readers: it’s not worth it and it does not demonstrate what you want it t0 (laugh). The point is that Liddy’s character does this in the series and made me recall the influence it had on me.]
